Restaurants for stomachs big and small in Bandung
by: Emma Kwee

Bandung has a bedazzling array of restaurants with every possible cuisine at every possible budget. As we all know, McDonald's isn't that suitable for a romantic night out, nor is 5 star ‘Le customer bankrutte' a very suitable option for a quick casual lunch. So to find your way through the gourmet jungle of Bandung 's resto's, here follows the crème de la crème of dining places, for every occasion.

Casual but cozy lunch: Head to Legendary Warung Lela in the upper part of Dago, where family recipes of noodles and sop buntut (oxtails soup) are served in a lovely ho mel y setting, with astonishing mountain views. The Mexican café on Jalan I.R Juanda is a tiny place chock full of coziness, with tasty and cheap Mexican burritos.

Bussiness bites: If you have matters to solve whilst sitting at the table, it's best to take your business to Dakken on Jalan R.E Martadinata. Here, a neutral atmosphere and soft music will enable you to talk without screaming on the top of your lungs. Furthermore, the big tables have ample room for laptops, calculators, graphs and other business paraphernalia.

Authentic Sundanese: If you wish to blend in with the locals, a taste of their fresh Sunda food is mandatory. There are several restaurants who specialize in local delicacies, the most legendary being Kampung Daun in Lembang. Here, in a paradisiacal tropical garden, you have the chance to sample all Sundanese dishes, while squatting in you own private gazebo. Another good option is Dago Tea House in Dago. Views of the mountains are accompanied by good and surprisingly cheap Sundanese specialties.

Panorama galore: If you want to have something else to look at besides your dining partner, Bandung 's mountain side restaurants are a good resolution. Most of them are located in Dago e.g Stone Café , the View and The Valley and all of them offer Top cuisine in a top décor. Prices might be steeper, but so are the views. One of the best restaurants in Bandung is The Peak, in Lembang. It probably has the best views of the city, and arguably one of the best cuisines.

Style ‘n substance: The most stylish restaurants are mostly located downtown. If you fancy a good glass of wine, head over to The Cellar. Atmosphere boasts a lot of ambience and a beautiful design. Sapu Lidi is a restaurant in a lovely garden setting, and so is Grace, with a peaceful setting and Western delicacies.

Ro..ro..romantic: If you'd like a sense of privacy, restaurant The View in Dago spurs gazebos set on the flank of a hill overlooking the Bandung skyline. The Stone Café does the same thing and has a beautiful interior too.
