So, on top of everything else, you've just been asked to find some temporary accommodation for the new CEO. It should be easy enough; you've rented accommodation before. But hang on - we're not talking about a cheap and cheerful shared student house for your kids or a dinky holiday cottage in Cornwall.
Tracy Kellett of BDI Home Finders, a nationwide company offering executive rental property search and relocation services, has some suggestions:
(1)Be absolutely clear with letting agents that you are looking for top end rentals only and don't let them waste your time with unsuitable properties.
(2)Check the terms of a lease carefully in case the company is lumbered with the let for a long time if the situation changes with the CEO.
(3)If the executive is to stay in the rental property for a good while, find out what lifestyle features may be important to them. For instance, would they prefer be within easy access to the countryside - or walking distance from a good restaurant?
(4)Don't choose a property that is too close to where the 'workers' live. The new CEO will not want to bump into all-and-sundry at the supermarket.
(5)A property with Wi-Fi will be ideal, but if this is not possible, at least make sure that fast broadband internet will be accessible.
(6)Consider appointing a professional agency to source the let for you. Top end rentals are few and far between and the search can be time consuming and frustrating. Also, lettings agents have been known to keep the best properties 'under the counter' for relocation agents, as it is an easier process to deal with a fellow property professional.
