Another Award-winning Bus From Volvo

Volvo is a name associated with car safety, thanks to the company's dedication to producing safe and high performance car for the public. They have been known to manufacture cars with a long list of safety features possibly longer than any car manufacturers that Volvo's cars are up against. These cars from Volvo have received much praise and high ratings due to their safety from different safety agencies. But their cars' safety is not the only thing Volvo is known for - they are also the world's second largest manufacturer of trucks and buses, next only to General Motors. They are not also known just for producing trucks and buses but also by the quality and high performance of such heavy-duty vehicles.

Their buses and trucks have been receiving much praise from different sector. As a matter of fact, one of their bus models have recently received an award in India for being a positive factor in affecting the public's attitude towards public transportation and for helping alleviate the country's major cities' problem in traffic congestion.

The company's good reputation is getting better with yet another award for one of their bus models and this time in Finland. The recipient this time of the award is the low-entry bus, the Volvo 8700 LE, which was given the distinction of being the Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Finland.

The coveted title is awarded to the Volvo bus by the transport trade magazine Ajolinja. One of the factors cited as to why the Volvo bus was chosen for the prestigious award is its very low emission levels. The bus, after all, already meets the Euro 5 emission standard which will not be effective until 2009. The significantly lower emission level is better appreciated since Volvo is the first bus manufacturer to produce buses with diesel engine that meets the Euro 5 standard in Finland. The design of the engine and its exhaust system makes the lower emission of the bus possible.

Another reason for the awarding of the Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Finland to the Volvo 8700 LE is its role in the improvement of inter-city travel in the capital city area. The Volvo buses are a part of the Jokeri bus transport system in the country's capital. The bus transport system has recently received much praise for its efficiency akin to the efficiency of a well oiled . A GPS system in each bus allows waiting passengers to know how long it will take approximately the next bus will arrive. This convenient feature of the buses makes this transport system passenger-friendly. Comfort of the passengers is also assured thanks to the comfortable seats and a roomy interior.

Volvo has 29 low-entry buses being employed in the Jokeri transit system and each of these buses have priority at crossings with traffic signals in a separate bus lane. This fact allows for less stops resulting to even lower emissions and faster transportation of passengers. These 14.7-meter long buses can seat up to 103 passengers and runs the 30-kilometer bus route that the Jokeri Line runs. The high performance diesel engine ensures that the buses travel fast and safe which Volvo is known for the world over.

Apart from the eco-friendly nature of the buses, another thing that gave them the award is their positive effect on the choice of transport systems for the large number of commuters in the country's capital city Helsinki. Their safety and the convenience they accord to commuters made them a good alternative to more expensive transport systems like trams or subways.
