One of the German auto giants Volkswagen is thinking of setting up their component manufacturers in its land around the Chakan facility. Setting up this unit will ensure faster delivery of different auto parts to the plant and will also save the company the transportation costs.

Volkswagen has decided to invite their auto component manufacturers to set up units in its land around the Chakan facility. This will help the company to save transportation costs and VW will be able to source the same quality of components procured and used in its vehicles sold in overseas markets. The selected companies will be allotted plots within the VW 230 hectare complex to set up facilities to manufacture components
The work on Vendor Park that is coming up at its Chakan facility is also in progress, out of 575 acres of land one third is being set aside for the park.

?The company invested Rs 2,400 crore for its new plant but later it went upto to Rs 3,500 crore as it was required to speed up the completion of the plant. The production will take off with the Skoda Fabia which will be later followed by a Polo based model from 2010, which is currently under development.
