Maruti Suzuki, Indian car market leader is growing in a big way not only domestically but also globally. The company crossed half a million mark in the cumulative exports.
As the ship liner, "Goliath Leader" left Mumbai port on 28th February; carrying 1180 Maruti cars to various Latin American countries and with this Maruti Suzuki became the first carmaker in India to cross the 500,000 units of export.
While Maruti Suzuki cars have already proved themselves in all five continents and among them Europe has been a popular destination with the contribution of 56% of company's cumulative exports. Netherlands with 67,700 units and Italy with over 41, 000, we also have UK (over 34,000) have been the biggest European buyers. Germany and Hungary too are among the countries that have imported over 20,000 Maruti Suzuki cars.
Maruti Suzuki's next wonder, the A-Star, a premium hatchback car, that was unveiled in the Recent Auto Expo will be the first vehicle to be exported from the company's car terminal at Mundra Port.
In the non-European markets, Algeria is the bags the credit with over 42,000 units, followed by Chile, Srilanka and Nepal. Maruti 800 is the favorite models that rule the most with 178,000 units and Alto follows closely with 152,000 units.
The other car that are on the list of exporting is the Suzuki's fifth World Strategic Model, A-Star (not launched yet) plans to export 100,000 units annually of this new model, to Europe and other parts of the world.
Earlier in February Maruti Suzuki tied up with Mundra port for development of dedicated port facilities for export shipments of cars through Pure Car Carriers. By Dec, 2008, the new facility is expected to start its operation.
Maruti Suzuki has started sharing its good sales and service practices with other Suzuki companies worldwide and this flow would gain further momentum in the coming few years. The company expects to achieve a goal of one million domestic sales by 2010-11.
