Factory upgrades are necessary. This is to ensure refinements and improvements in the facility, equipments and other tools. Generally speaking, such upgrades are essential to achieve better (or even the best) quality among a company's products and to further make these more marketable.
A proposal was recently announced stating tax breaks to plants which are making major refinements and upgrades would increase. Extensive factory upgrades could qualify for new tax breaks. An example is the one under way in the Spring Hill plant of General Motors Corporation (GMC).
Under a Bredesen administration plan is to amplify incentives for existing plants instead of just for new ones that are coming to Tennessee.
According to Reagan Farr, the State Revenue Commissioner, the proposal would commend the fact that not every big investment will come with significant job growth and development. He added that GMC would be a likely beneficiary of the proposed alterations. This is because the work the American car manufacturer is being done on its assembly plant in Spring Hill. This was the plant where the Saturn brand was introduced to the public in 1990.
The car maker has closed, for the meantime, the plant. But it is currently working on its paint shop upgrade that costs $225 million. GMC and the state have been in several talks over incentives for more investments in the factory.
