The year 2007 must be a very good year for Toyota, especially its luxury division, Lexus. For the first half of the year, the brand had already garnered several awards from international automotive award giving bodies. Aside from being the best selling luxury car in the United States, its features of sophistication and aristocracy makes it exceptional from other car brands and deserves nothing but to be distinguished.
Early this year, Lexus was the recipient of What Car?'s Car of the Year Green Award. The award was a symbol of the recognition of Toyota's efforts in developing hybrid vehicles and clean diesel engines that is very helpful to the environment (Lexus also uses the same system like that of the hybrid Toyota Prius). According to What Car? Editor Steve Fowler, "Toyota and Lexus are doing more than anyone else to offer consumers low-CO2 vehicles. Other manufacturers have been slow out of the blocks when it comes to environmental matters - we'd like to see more low-CO2 vehicles launched as a matter of priority."
Lexus, along with Chevrolet and Toyota, also won IntelliChoice.com's 2007 "Best Overall Value of the Year" award. IntelliChoice.com is an online source for automotive ownership and value analysis. The award is in recognition of the car's best guarantee to return the investment in their classes. Lexus is the Best Car Value under $23,000.
Also, for twelve years, Lexus was constantly hailed as the Most Dependable Vehicle only for their thirteenth year, with GM's Buick jumping to the first spot to share the prestige this year. The Vehicle Dependability study is annually conducted by J.D. Power Associates and was based on consumer complaints for three-year old cars. Lexus and Buick both scored 145.
In the New York Auto Show, Lexus's model LS 460 was honored to be the 2007 World Car of the year. Among 22 contenders, the Lexus SL 460 was the choice of the jury of 22 journalists from all over the world. The unanimous vote was based on the criteria of customer satisfaction, style, quality and performance of the vehicle.
Another feather in the cap of Lexus is for its SL 460 being 2007's Best Engineered Vehicle. The award giving body is the Automotive Engineering International Magazine (AEI). Votes were solicited from their readers, writers and editors.
