The Road to Weight Loss Begins With One Small Step

By: Diets In Review

Some people are naturally skinny. They can eat anything and everything and never seem to lose a pound, but the rest of us have to be a little smarter about what we eat. When most people hear the word "diet" they have nightmarish thoughts of bland boring food, too tiny portions, and being hungry all of the time. But it doesn't have to be that way. Losing weight is all about being healthier, feeling better, and gaining confidence. Those types of lifestyle changes rarely happen overnight. Breaking down your weight loss program into small and manageable steps will get you ease into your new healthier lifestyle.

The vast majority of doctors will stress that the safest, healthiest way to slim down is with good old-fashioned dieting and regular exercise. But getting into a diet and exercise routine can be daunting and difficult. So start small. Start by cutting out the worst of the junk food from your diet and adding in more vegetables, fruits, and lean protein. And don't be discouraged if you give in to your cravings every once in a while. Food can be addictive and comforting, and it's a struggle to kick those bad eating habits. Besides, eating a few small pieces of chocolate when you really want it is less likely to destroy your diet than denying yourself for days and then giving in and eating a huge candy bar!

Work in the exercise slowly too. Even adding in one or two workouts to your weekly routine can make a big difference when it comes to losing weight. After you've established a routine it's easier to work out longer and add in new exercises to keep things interesting. The road to achieving your ideal weight can be a long one, but every step you take gets you closer to your goal. So start with baby steps and you'll be running toward the new you in no time!
