What You Should Know About Hoodia Safety

By: Sheryl Polomka

Hoodia Gordonii is a very popular pill to use in the assistance of weight loss. This pill works by suppressing your appetite and therefore reducing your calorie intake. But what about the safety of Hoodia and is there anything to be concerned about?

The Sans bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa have actually used the Hoodia plant for medicinal purposes and also for the purpose of suppressing their appetites while they went on long hunting trips. The tribesmen would take the Hoodia plant when they knew that food would be scarce to them for some time.

The bush tribes of South Africa have used Hoodia Gordonii for thousands of years and in all that time there have been no reports of negative side effects so it does appear that it is very safe to use.

There have also been studies undertaken in the UK where obese patients were given a molecule called P57 which is the molecule in the Hoodia plant that causes appetite suppression. It was shown in this study that the patients did lose weight and did reduce the number of calories taken and it also showed no negative side effects.

The main concern with Hoodia Gordonii is that as well as suppressing the appetite it also suppresses thirst and so the concern is that if you are not feeling thirsty you may not drink the required daily requirement of water and could become hydrated.

So it is important for anyone using Hoodia to make sure that they still drink the required amount of water to avoid dehydration.
Aside from this is completely safe to use and does have remarkable results when used for weight loss.
