A Quick Guide to Choosing the Right Vacuum Cleaner Attachments

By: TommyM
The efficiency of a vacuum cleaner does not depend completely on its power rating or the type of filtration system that is installed in it. It is the vacuum cleaner attachments that make the difference in whether your machine actually manages to clean things as well as the advertising brochure said that it could.

When people intend to buy a vacuum cleaner they are under the wrong impression that the machine in itself is going to be like some magic spell that will clear up all the dirt and debris in their homes. Thanks to all the advertising going on around us, we are quick to choose a Dirt Devil, Hoover, or Eureka, manufactured model and not bother to think any further.

The result is that many people end up with perfectly good vacuum cleaners that somehow do not help them keep things as clean as they would like. Why? Because the required vacuum cleaner attachments are missing.

Deciding which attachments you need, depend on where they are going to be used. So, you have to be clear on your requirements before buying vacuum cleaner attachments. For example, whether you wish to vacuum upholstery, or whether you wish to remove fur that is being shed by your pet around the house, you will need a different set of attachments.

All types of vacuum cleaners; upright, canister, etc. all of them come with their own attachments. If you have attachments for an older vacuum model and not of a newer one from the same company, then they might not work at all.

This is the reason why it is important when buying a vacuum cleaner, you not only pay attention to the features of the vacuum itself, but also the environment in which you are going to use it and what additions you might require later on.

People who have pets should get a vacuum cleaner that either comes with a special brush as an attachment, or one that has some sort of pet hair removal gadget included.

While everyone will have at least a few unique requirements as far as their model goes, there are still some common vacuum cleaner attachments that everyone should keep handy.

The regular hose that comes with most vacuum cleaners can prove to be difficult when trying to reach awkward places such as under furniture or tight gaps between sofa cushions. For such places, you need a slender wand-like vacuum cleaner attachment that provides extra reach and is capable of sliding into places that are a tight squeeze.

Finally, you can also go for the universal attachments if you cannot find the exact ones which would fit your model. However, make sure that they are compatible before you actually buy them.
