In the off-seasons, the prices are quite reasonable, however during the popular months of summer, these prices rise dramatically. During Oktoberfest, the cost of hotel accommodation will skyrocket. This beer festival runs from the last Saturday in September until the first Sunday in October. You should be able to find accommodation in the luxury hotels at this time of year. The quality of hotels in Munich varies drastically, as well. You can find a very basic hotel or you find high quality luxury hotel. There is something for every tourist. The historic Old Town, known as Altstadt, has a number of popular hotels. Here you will find the Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten Munchen on Maximilanstrasse which boasts a rooftop swimming pool.

Visitors to the city can choose to stay in pensions or youth hostels which are much cheaper holiday accommodation options. During Oktoberfest you may be required to line up outside the tourist office first thing in the morning and queue for hours in order to find a room! The hostels are well-priced and may best suit travelers who are on a tight budget or student travelers.

The most popular hostels can be found in the district of Neuhausen which is on the north-west side of Munich. It is a vibrant area that will suit young travelers. Many budget accommodation options are also found in the south-western outskirts of Munich.

You should find a holiday apartment for rent if you are planning an extended stay in Munich. These will work out more financially viable and by staying in a self catered apartment, you will experience the feel and atmosphere of the city. They can be found in many different areas of the city.

You can choose your holiday accommodation according to area as well. Around the train station (known as the hauptbahnhof) you will find a number of cheap youth hostels and pensions, as well as a large variety of the more pricey, up-market hotels. The greatest density of holiday accommodation options can be found on the south side of the hauptbahnhof. This, however, is not the nicest area after dark. The districts of Schwabing and the Ostbahnhof area also have large numbers of youth hostels, as well as hotels. The advantages of staying in these areas are that they are close to many bars and restaurants. Most of the luxury hotels can be found in the center of the city.
