Are Airline Credit Cards Really Worth It?

By: Anthony Samuel

With all the credit cards on offer today, it is so hard to choose one that is right for you and having seen the adverts for airline credit cards you may have asked yourself if it is worth it, after all you don't really fly that often. Well, airline credit cards offer you a lot more than free flights.

Even though the name of the card should tell you what the card company offers there are so many other benefits that at least one is guaranteed to be suited to you. Let's look at what benefits are available with airline credit cards.

Sure enough there are free bonus air miles offered when you first use your card and you will continue to earn miles when you do your shopping, bill payments and other day to day transactions. It does not stop there however; card companies can be quite generous and sometimes offer special promotions such as a US to Germany flight where you can earn 15,000 miles.

As stated before if flying is not your passion that is ok because airline companies cater for you and have provided other ways for you to earn additional miles. There are many firms that partner with the credit card companies to offer essential services that you need.

Most people today own at least one cell phone and some airline companies allows you to earn at least 5000 air miles when you sign up for wireless services with their partner. A personal or educational loan can earn you up to 40,000 air miles. Other companies allow you to earn miles when you use affiliate clubs, rent cars or use named moving companies. These everyday actions would boost your miles earnings and provide you with the opportunity to redeem the miles for pretty good rewards.

So what do you do with the miles?
If you are into flying you can travel the world, depending on the airline it would cost around 50,000 miles to fly from the USA to England or France or 90,000 from the USA to South Africa, and if you don't have enough miles you can purchase up to a maximum of 20,000 to earn your free flight subject to your airline credit card providers rules.

For non flyers, you can redeem points on cruises, at restaurants, hotels, toy shops, DIY stores and the list goes on and on. You can even redeem miles for cash, now I know whether you are a flyer or not, everyone could always use cash.

When you are looking for your airline credit card, compare the benefits that are right for you and remember to look out for things like black out dates or any cap on the amount of points you can earn, you should be able to earn all the miles you can in proportion to your spending and travel whenever you like. Annual fees can add unnecessary expense so be on guard.

Overall Airline Credit Cards are a good way to be rewarded for your spending and with all the various rewards out there, you will be sure to find one or more that suits you.
