For sometime now you may have wondered what brings about the burning sensation that you often feel especially after taking a meal. This is as a result of a health condition known as acid reflux. The disease is characterized by stomach content traveling up through the esophagus and finally into the throat. The traveling content carries with it body acid which in turn burns the lining of the path in which it follows as it is traversing. Due to this action, a burning feeling is experienced by the patient. Over the years, causes of acid reflux have been identified and made known to us.
One main reason why this condition takes place is because of a malfunctioning flap that covers the top of the esophagus. The flap's main function is to only allow substances to go through it from the mouth towards the stomach via the esophagus and not at anytime let stomach content come up and pass it so that it could return to the throat.
When the flap is defective, it sometimes allows what is in the stomach which comes with body acid to pass and enter this throat area.
The process seen to bring the burning sensation is therefore believed to be part of the causes of acid reflux.
Obesity is something else that can make you suffer from the disease. Being overweight is said to enhance fat accumulation in the body. With this, comes along an increase in unwanted toxins which comprise of body acid. When there is plenty of it in the stomach, it is forced to move up the esophagus and find its way into the throat. As a result of this action, tender tissues get to be subjected to a burning process and this brings about the painful sensation that you feel at times. To avoid this from happening, you are required to exercise regularly so as to keep the body fit and minimize fat accumulation.
Another body condition that could find itself in the list of causes of acid reflux is having a digestive system defect. When you have a problem with your system, ingested food does not undergo proper digestion and thus metabolism rate reduces and makes the food particles to stay much longer in the stomach. For this reason, your stomach stays full and pressure within increases. This actually makes the stomach content be pushed up the esophagus and as this flows back to the throat, it carries with it gastric acid and it harms the tissues as it passes through them.
To add to this list of causes of acid reflux is pregnancy. During this period, your eating habits really matter a lot as you need to be keen on what to eat and when to.Most women often get nausea tic towards certain foods during these nine months and hence indulge themselves in bad food habits. Acid forms in plenty in the body as a result of excess fat and calories being ingested and it is in turn forced to move up the digestive system and cause harm in the body.To keep off this disease, you need to know what is the cause and try to avoid by all means.
