The DVLAhave been keen to sell off the family silver this year in a bid to raise fundsfor the exchequer. Their efforts include the normal DVLA auction programmethroughout the year, a new sale by tender & the much awaited release of theF prefix registration numbers in October 2008.
This weekhas been a fantastic result for Mr Darling with the auction of DVLA numberplates at Wallingford,Northamptonshire. There were over 1600 lots included in the sale with some veryexclusive private number plates available.
Yesterdaysaw some of the best registrations in the sale change hands the two highlightsof the day have to be 1 HRH selling to a Buckinghamshire based businessman whodidn't want to be named but was determined to keep the registration number inBritish ownership. The other private number plate that had big expectations was1 O with many forecasts expecting the DVLA to scoop over a quarter of a millionpounds. The number was actually sold to a private buyer for ?210,242 faroutstripping it's ?10,000 reserve price.
Today hasseen another high value sale with 3 Ssmashing it's ?8,000 reserve price reaching ?76,000 when the auctioneersgavel fell at the same auction.
