Usually, the slogan is ?Safety First!? But road safety in India has a new slogan ?Safety Last!? as nobody really bothers to care about the life of the fellow commuters. The situation is pathetic on all the Indian roads including Indian highways. The concept of adhering to a speed limit does not exist on Indian roads. The driving conditions in India are not just bad; they are a deterrent to new drivers also. The followers of traffic rules in India are endangered specie. The road signals in India exist just for the sake of it. The traffic signs are observed more in violation. The Driving Schools in India represent an archaic model of teaching. The Indian driving schools are reminiscent of a blind man trying to help another blind man! Road rage in India welcomes you!
This degenerating situation on the Indian roads is not too far from reality. Every statement above applies to almost every Indian road. The situation has really gone out of hand, where the daily office-commuter is not too sure of his return. The apathy is almost complete and there seems to be no ready solution for this mega problem. It's one thing to keep on discussing these pressing issues in the seminar rooms and discussion boards but to implement the solutions; we have to take certain tough measures on the ground.
First of all, respect for the life of fellow human beings has to be restored in the psyche of every human being in the country. Unless we respect the basic human right to life, the rashness and road rage will never get cured.
The second most important step we can take is to show the will and courage to implement the laws in letter and spirit. To err is human but to repeatedly err is de-humanizing! Most people when checked in their first commission of offense would refrain from committing it again. But to achieve this end, the law enforcement agencies have to shed their image of being corrupt and indifferent to their duty.
Last, but by no means least, step we must take is to inculcate self-discipline in the children who are the future motorists. The good virtues of life along with sound technical training must be imparted at a young age so that they do not grow into impetuous human beings. The respect of life must come from within and that is possible only when the foundation of the child is strong.
Just these three steps, if implemented in the right earnest, will ensure almost zero incidents of road rage anywhere in the world.
