Hiking Snacks
- Nuts, seeds, nut-based bars or nut butter packs. Dried or freeze-dried fruits and veggies. Energy bars, chews or gels. Granola or granola bars. Ready-made tuna salad pouches. Whole-grain tortillas. Poultry, salmon or meat jerky.
The total weight of my hiking pack not counting water, is 15 pounds. If you carry something, make sure you know how to use it. Carrying a well thought out pack is a good outdoor life-skill.
Plan ahead before you venture into our backcountry, even if you plan to be gone only an hour or two. It makes good sense. With just this small amount of planning you’ll get the most out of your backcountry experiences.
