Scottsdale Welcomes the Canadians Back

By: Anne Eliason

Things will be gearing up in Scottsdale for what seems to have become the horseshow of the world. Every February Arabian horse owners converge on this beautiful city to compete in the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. Last year there were over two thousand five hundred entries, which made it the largest Arabian horse show in the world.

Canadians do not need much of an excuse to leave the cold, icy climes of a Canadian February and come to the blue skies of warm, sunny Scottsdale. In fact, last year Canadians could come and cheer their fellow countrymen on as they picked up several ribbons and saw Canadian horses walking off with two championships. The challenge is ongoing!

Scottsdale is a great place for Canadians (or anyone else!) to retire to. The drive down from the north is a pleasant one if you want to be only a snowbird and if permanent retirement is on the cards, then there is always plenty of diversified recreational, cultural and educational past times to enjoy in Scottsdale.

When moving from Canada to Scottsdale, Canadians should know that buying property in the United States is different from purchasing a home in Canada. Property loans are differently organized and the legalities around the title are all unfamiliar territory.

Consequently, if you are planning a move, contact an experienced real estate agent before you arrive, have a rough plan in mind and take the time to give her or him a call and have a chat prior to your arrival in Scottsdale.

Many Canadians before you have trodden the path of escaping to the sun, so that all the bumps are flattened out, but still you need to be aware that it is different. Some Canadians have even hired a Canadian Certified Financial Planner to work with them, although many manage without.

Many people from all over the North American Continent want to live in Scottsdale. In many ways it epitomizes the 'good' of all that is American. It has an almost perfect climate, and aside from the Western aspect, it also has the best golfing and it is host to world class golfing tournaments.

The cultural side of Scottsdale is also famous in its own right, and musicians, exhibitions and shows from all over the world are always seen in Scottsdale.

It is no wonder that with all this to offer, the Scottsdale realty market has not really suffered in the nationwide woes of real estate selling. Prices are holding here, and this means that anyone who buys in Scottsdale will probably be looking at a very good investment.

Many Canadians flock here, partly to get away from that tough Canadian winter, but also because it has everything that a person could want for retirement. It offers all the relaxing recreations in life, all the fun recreations and all the cultural treats that allow you to put on your best duds once in a while.

Whether you are Canadian, American or any other nationality, if you planning to buy a home in Scottsdale and use it for only a certain part of the year, then a condo in Scottsdale would be a good investment.

As condos are maintained by the management, they can be left empty without fear of burglarizing or theft and you can leave your property and your belongings there just like at home, knowing they will be safe.

Condos are managed within a set of guidelines, designed to placate all residents and allow for an easier way of life. As the rules differ one to the other, there is always a chance that the odd condo unit may not allow rentals, so if you are planning a part rental purchase, look into that.

One final comment about living in Scottsdale, not only will you not have to shovel that white stuff, the climate is so dry and warm that your lungs will work better and your bones won't creak... what are you waiting for?
