With everybody looking at beach houses in southern California (watch out for earthquakes) and in Florida (hurricane central) it is easy to see how houses in such areas cost so much. Is there really anything all that special about a beach house in these popular regions? Considering the natural disasters that have struck in the past, investing in a beach house in such regions is riskier than digging for oil in your own back yard.
For these reasons, you should definitely look other places for a beach house. Nobody wants to go to the beach only to find out that the house is no longer there. There are so many other places to look, but one of the most underestimated beaches to look at for buying a house is Delaware's Dewey Beach. Dewey is a peaceful place to stay where everything is within walking distance. Dewey is only one mile long and about three blocks wide, with the Atlantic Ocean on the east side and Rehoboth Bay on the west.
At Dewey Beach you can not miss the chance to stop by The Starboard, voted one of the top twenty five bars in American by Men's Journal Magazine. The bar features an option to build your own Bloody Mary with over 700 ingredients, all the DJ plays your favorite track or a live band plays the latest hits. The bar is also a great place for people to meet up, as they say, "under the shark". One of the mini malls features a lot of different places to eat including Dagsworthy Deli, Dairy Queen, Franco's Pizza, Wings to Go, and Nick's Philadelphia Steaks and Subs.
The bay is a great place to go boating. You can take your jet skis, your wave runners, your water skis, your kneeboard, your float tube, your motorboat, or a fishing pole. If you are on the beach in the early summer months, you should keep an eye out on the ocean side for dolphins, which are commonly seen that time of year. The ocean waters of Dewey beach are crystal clear, and the sand is a beautiful shade of gold.
Are there any drawbacks to Dewey beach?
Well, it does get cold in the winter months, but nothing very damaging or disturbing. The ocean keeps the climate fresh. Is there a lot for children to do? Not really, beyond the beach and bay activities, there really are not many facilities for children. Those couple of things aside, Dewey Beach is a fantastic place to invest in a beach house. You get the best of both worlds with the ocean on one side and the bay on the other.
The town does not grow so it will always maintain its classic look and feel, giving it a very charming feeling that other beach towns in Florida and California are not able to produce. Do not forget the most important part: you will never have to fear earthquakes or hurricanes with a beach house in Dewey.
