Outfitting Your Real Estate Investment Office

By: Judson Voss

To start your real estate investment business you will need to have office space. For some people their office is set up in their homes. For other people, they choose to rent office space and work out of that remote location instead. No matter which of the two options that you choose, you will need to outfit your office with many things required to get your work done from day to day. The good news is that this doesn't have to be an expensive part of your business plan. With a little thought and creativity, you can outfit your office very frugally and save your money for other things.

The Office

Your real estate investment company will likely start doing business out of your own home; however, if you are unable to work from home for some reason, then finding a very small office space should work just fine. If you look around your local community, you will find many options for a small business start-up to be located. You don't need a whole building to yourself; just some simple office space in another business's building will do just fine.

The Furniture

Every real estate investment company needs a comfortable chair and decent sized desk. Look around for one that is used or take the time to make one using a pre-fabricated counter top and some nice wood filing cabinets. Whatever you do, make sure you will be comfortable while conducting business.

The Technology

In this day and age all businesses require the use of a computer and Internet connection. Get a good model PC or laptop from one of the main makers and at least a DSL or cable modem speed internet connection.

In addition to your computer you will need a phone or two. You have the option of using a cell phone at all times, or having an additional landline where you can also have an answering machine or forward calls to your cell when you are out of the office. Whether you choose to use a cell phone all the time or not is simply a matter of personal preference.

Because you will be dealing with a lot of documents, you will need to have the ability to send and receive faxes. You can either do this through your scanner and PC, or through a traditional fax machine.

In addition to the above you will also need access to FedEx or UPS for express document transferring.
