NewCar101.com Car Review: 2005 Acura MDX

The MDX ranks well above average for the crossover SUV class. The engine is powerful and refined. The transmission shiftssmoothly. Acceleration can keep an aggressively driven MDX aheadof some sports cars. Handling is secure and although lean duringbrisk cornering is quite noticeable, it is not unsettling. Theride is firm, meaning that few bumps will escape the attentionof driver or passengers, but still acceptable. For adults, theMDX is roomy and comfortable in the front seats and satisfactoryin the second row. The standard split and folding third rowseats are for children. Carrying seven passengers leaves littleroom for cargo.

Conclusion: Sharing its body structure and engine (but not thehorsepower rating) with the similar Honda Pilot, buyers shouldask themselves whether the Acura nameplate is worth the extramoney. A fine performer, the MDX nonetheless loses to the Pilotwhen the purchase price is considered
