Pumping Components for Burning and Cooling

By: Kimberly Baker

Every vehicle needs two contrasting, but equally important, types of pumps---one for shooting fluid for burning and one for supplying another type of fluid for cooling. General Motors, for example, use a GM Fuel Pump to draw fuel from the its tank and into the engine and GM water pump to inject steady supply of water into the cooling system.

A GM fuel pump enables the fuel to be injected from the fuel tank to the engine. For carbureted engines, fuel is delivered under low pressure, while for fuel injection systems, the fluid is transported under a high pressure to the fuel injection system. Normally, fuel-injected engines have two different types of fuel pumps---one low pressure/high volume supply pump in the tank and one high pressure/low volume pump at or near the engine.

Generally, there are two kinds of fuel pump used by General Motors. The first one is the mechanical GM fuel pump used in carbureted vehicles. The electric , on the other hand, is utilized for EFI vehicles. The electronic fuel injection is a fuel delivery system that injects controlled amounts of fuel into the engine's combustion chambers. A computer system controls the entire process, observing important variables such as the position of the throttle, the air and fuel ratio, and the exhaust contents.

A , on the other hand, the cooling system of a Cadillac or Jeep. It is installed at the grille side of the engine and is driven by the belt from a pulley to the end of the engine. This water pump is a vital component in maintaining the engine and radiator temperature levels. Thus, engine is being kept from overheating.

A good GM water pump delivers a performance essential to the cooling systems of GM vehicles such as Oldsmobile, EV-1, DunPont, Saturn, or Cadillac. It functions effectively by absorbing heat produced by the engine during combustion. The said process happens 'real-time' when a vehicle is running, as the engine produces the heat that powers the entire automobile. Water pumps minimizes engine problems that may damage certain vehicle parts like the radiator and other engine components.
