New Ford Focus for Europe

By: Anthony Fontanelle

Ford Motor Company is expanding its product lineup in Europe with the Ford Focus model that will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year. For the 2008 model year, Ford gave the Focus a fresh appearance with its kinetic design exterior, refined interior components, and other range of new features inside and out.

"The focal point for our development of the new Focus was crystal clear: to make it look as good as it drives. In addition, we wanted to introduce some of the new technologies from our larger cars, and make its driving quality even better. Cost of ownership has always been a major reason for buying a Focus, so we also made it a priority to improve fuel economy and, in particular, environmental performance to keep the new Focus at the top of its segment." said Gunnar Herrmann, C-Car Vehicle Line Director, Ford of Europe.

Martin Smith, Ford of Europe's Executive Director for Design
"We wanted to ensure that the new model was still recognisably a Focus, but was also identifiable as a new generation Ford. I'm very happy with the results, as the new car has greater presence and stronger lines which reinforce its driving dynamics credentials. Just as with the new Mondeo, this car reflects our 'energy in motion' philosophy represented in our 'kinetic design' form language."

Outside, the new Ford Focus comes with dynamic new 'kinetic design' form with the key European design elements like some of the popular Ford of Europe models including the Ford S-MAX and the new Ford Mondeo. These kinetic design exterior components include the dynamic new bonnet, enlarged trapezoidal opening of the new lower grille, sculpted headlamps, smaller upper grille capped with a chrome strip, HID Bi-Xenon lamps/Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), bodyside mouldings, enlarged exterior door mirrors, and classically-styled roof rail system finished in brushed aluminium. At the rear portion of the new Ford Focus, notable features include the wider stance, newly sculpted tailgate and glass area, new fully painted rear valence, and highly visible new LED rear lamps to match the AFS or HID Xenon lighting systems. Privacy Glass, Solar Reflect windscreen, and choices of of 15 to 18-inch wheel designs complete the exterior appearance of the vehicle.

While the exterior's focal point is on the dynamic design cues, the interior of the Ford Focus emphasized the quality of materials and enhancement of comfort levels. The new comes with new instrument binnacle, revised centre stack and redesigned window and mirror switches. The vehicle is also equipped with high quality leather, available Ford Power button, and 'Ford Power' start button. A wide range of in car systems are also available on the Ford Focus including the optional Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) tuner, Bluetooth connectivity, new navigation system with 5-inch colour display, and SD card slot for MP3 files.

Ford of Europe won't compromise their customer's safety. The Ford Focus is equipped with a wide array of passive and active safety components, which include standard Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Control, tyre pressure Deflation Detection System (DDS), standard ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, and airbags.

The new Ford Focus will roll out in the European market early in 2008 with two new variants like the Focus Coupe-Cabriolet and Focus ST. Europeans should watch out for this model or upgrade their auto parts (like Acura CL with ) while waiting.
