Back Up or Lose it Forever...

By: Andy Yeo

PAIN is losing your mobile phone without any backup for the contacts, calendar, pictures, etc.

How many of us do backup our important data in our phones? It is our responsibility to do so, not the manufacturer's.

Imagine the pain of trying to get back all your contacts and keying them one by one back to a new phone? And the loss of all those important appointments and meetings that you have keyed into the calendar?

Please do this immediately :

1. If your phone supports memory card, buy an extra one

2. If it doesn't, learn how to back up the data from the user guide

There are few ways to do a back up :

1. Back up to Memory Card - If your phone comes with a Memory Card, please learn how to do the back up. Then, buy another similar Memory Card and back up once more. Keep the 2nd one at home.

2. Back up to Computer - Most Mobile Phone nowadays allow you to back up data using an additional software (e.g. PC Suite for Nokia phones). Basically it allows you to synchronize or back up the data on your phone to your PC. Thus your PC now has a back up of your data.

Personally, I prefer to synchronize my Contacts and Calendar to my Microsoft Outlook and back up my pictures to my PC. What I did in addition is also I print out a hard copy of all my contacts just in case my hard disk crashes.

Backing up to Memory Card has one disadvantage. If you lose your phone you need to buy a similar phone in order to restore the backup data.

Don't say that you are not technically inclined or it's too complicated.

No matter which method you choose, DO THE BACK UP NOW !
