I Can't Live Without My Cell Phone!
Just about everyone today has a cell phone. Having a wireless phone seems like more of a necessity rather than a want. With so many cell phones on the market, people can use them for work, play or both. However, in this day in age I'm finding that more and more people are using cell phones for work. So much so that the need of having a smartphone is becoming increasingly popular.
Take me for example. I work as a freelancer in the entertainment industry and I need to have constant access to my emails. Having email access on my phone was mainly the reason why I got the new BlackBerry Pearl. I can't haul around a laptop everywhere whenever I need to check or send emails. With all of my email accounts delivered right to my cell phone (I can have up to 6), I'm alerted immediately and can reply as easy as 1...2...3...and it's great! I don't miss out on job offers or interviews anymore like I use to. Not to mention, if I get a call or email for a job interview at the very last minute, I can easily go right to the Maps section on my cell phone to get directions (I don't have the GPS system in my car yet, hee hee!). Besides, I often get lost when I'm driving anyway so being able to get directions right at my fingertips is nice.
Other Uses For Smartphones
Smartphones phones like BlackBerrys or PDA's are perfect for people who are always on the go, especially for business professionals. I use my BlackBerry Pearl for email, text messaging, maps, weather and scheduling. However, you can use smartphones to read Adobe PDF files, WordPerfect, Excel, send efaxes, print and more.
Now, not everyone will use a smartphone for business purposes (you need to have room for play too, you know). With your average cell phone, you can easily download games, ringtones and wallpaper. However, having multimedia features added on your phone will also allow you to watch videos, movies and listen to music...and that my friend is very, very cool!
Selecting a Smartphone
Whether you use smartphones for work or for play, they're great and loads of fun to have. Check with various carriers to browse and select the right smartphone for you. With so many carriers trying to compete for your business, big carriers like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T are willing to offer some of the most popular and stylish phones on the market free or hugely discount them with a new wireless plan. Remember, being able to browse the web, check emails, watch videos, etc. are added features which will cost you extra each month. Depending on the phone, plan and carrier you select will determine how much extra you are going (or willing) to pay to have a smartphone.
I Love My BlackBerry Pearl!
Like I said I upgraded to a smartphone because I needed to have access to my emails for job offers. Who knows, six months from now I might have a need to download business software available for my BlackBerry. Don't get me wrong I stay busy, but I'm not that busy...well, not yet.
