New Phone or Just a Colour Change?

By: John Gray

The Nokia N82 was originally released in November 2007 in a silver colour scheme. Nokia have now announced that a new version of the N82 will be released in quarter two this year sporting a black colour scheme. Nokia have christened the new mobile phone with the 'original' Nokia N82 in black! To be fair to Nokia it is basically a colour change and a slight upgrade to the original handset and sports many of the same features as the original N82, so it doesn't really justify a new name.

Like the original N82 the N82 in black boasts a 5 mega pixel with Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus and xenon flash, assisted GPS, WiFi, HSDPA high speed data, microSD expandable memory, and an FM stereo radio with 3.5mm audio output jack.

The N82 does have a few small differences to the original N82, firstly the colour!! And secondly it supports geotagging, which automatically records the exact location of your photograph. Users can then upload their photographs on certain filesharing sites that will also be able to read the GPS location of the photograph for easy identification. Why you would really need this feature on your mobile phone, I don't know! But maybe I'm just old before my time!

The N82 in black also comes with a free trial of Nokia's navigation page and supports N-Gage gaming. As the N82 is a Symbian S60 smartphone, users can add more applications as and when they need too. It is thought that original N82 owners will be able to upgrade their software to the new N82 spec including geotagging.

It is rumoured that the Nokia N82 in black will be around ?400 to purchase when it is released in Q2 this year.
