As the fourth largest mobile carrier in the United Kingdom, orange mobile has now reached over 109 million subscribers across the entire continent of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Its parent company, France Telecom, is capitalizing on the huge wave of public demand deeming mobile phones as a basic necessity to one's everyday life.

Since mobile phones are now considered to be a major means of communication, it just follows that Orange offers a wide range of services the general public can choose from. Currently, Orange provides both mobile and broadband services not only to UK but to the Middle east and other European countries as well including France, Poland , Switzerland , Austria , Spain and Slovakia . Orange services also reaches some countries in the African continent such as Egypt, Jordan , Madagascar , Cameroon and Botswana .

History-wise, Orange started back in 1994 by Hutchison Telecom and was originally a UK-based company, but was later on acquired by France Telecom in 2001.

Why orange? It is said that the name of the company was generated from a Feng Shui reading which depicts the color as a symbol of "organization" and "concentration". Now, orange phones are amongst the most wanted phones in the United Kingdom. They also offer different affordable plans and service packages that people can choose from.

Furthermore, orange mobile phones boast of being top-of-the line in terms of features and ranges. Most phones have 3G access allowing subscribers to access the internet through their handsets at high speeds. 3G capability also allows subscribers to place video calls or send multi-media messages to other 3G capable handsets or networks. It also has its own portal known as the Orange Shop where clients to can download ring tones, themes and wallpapers straight to their units. Lastly, Orange UK provides the latest news on sports, entertainment and many more via text messages.

The Orange UK website named Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia as their top-selling handsets for the beginning of this year (2008). Samsung has the G600 unit, a sleek and stylish mobile phone that combines class w/ functionality. It's got an FM radio and boasts of a 4-mega pixel camera. Sony Ericsson on the other hand has the W910i, which is designed mostly for the music lover in you. It also has a 2 mega pixel camera added to its already nice package. Lastly, they have the 6500 for the Finnish brand Nokia. It's got an excellent multi-media player and a 3.2 mega pixel camera to boot.
