Retailers Spread Their Wings

By: John Gray

Mobile phone retailer Phones4u have just announced a pilot scheme to start selling TV and Broadband services. Phones4u have an agreement with Sky and Virgin to sell their bundled TV and Broadband packages. So no longer will their stores be a mobile phone only zone!

Phones4u have been trialling selling Sky services in Birmingham stores, and Virgin Media services in Liverpool stores over the past month, but it will now also be selling the hardware to go with these services. Staff will be trained on how to sell the products and choose the correct deal for the customers needs, just as they currently do with mobile phone deals.

The mobile phone retailer has introduced a 'media tariff plan' to offer deals which include a choice of three Samsung TVs or Samsung and Sony Vaio laptops with the digital services. Phones4u aren't the first retailer to offer broadband or TV services, Carphone Warehouse have been selling various broadband packages (including Virgin Media) for a while now, but Phones4u are the first retailer to bundle the services with hardware.

So when you next pop down to your local mobile retailer for an upgrade or a new phone expect to hear about the latest Digital TV or Broadband offers. As if choosing a mobile wasn't difficult or confusing enough - now we have TV and Broadband thrown in! Hopefully the staff will be trained enough to know what they are talking about and not simply push customers towards any old media deal.
