The Three Skypephone is a 3G mobile phone from Amoi. This brand handset is mostly sold in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Sweden and the UK. Hong Kong and Macau will join soon. Three offers 4000 free Skype outbound voice minutes that expire after 30 days, unless the user purchases another top-up or is on a pay monthly plan. Inbound calls are not generally counted in this quota. The phone, according to My3's website, is identified as the 'Amoi 8512', and while the phone packaging calls it the 'WP-S1'. Somehow, the phone is currently being marketed under the name 3 Skypephone and is currently available in 3's own stores and in retail, depending on country.
Windows Live Messenger was initially supported by the phone in select countries.
But in the late November 2007, it was released as a Java application in the UK, and is now available through the Launcher softkey on the phone. Usage of the Messenger is free on 3's UK and Ireland networks. This phone supports UMTS/W-CDMA 2100MHz, GSM and GPRS (900/1800 MHz). The Three Skypephone generally uses GSM voice network for handling Skype calls, that permits it to use Skype even when the user is out of range of the 3G network. This model handset also has the advantage of handling calls and through this way, it assures that it does not require data or WiFi connections that consumes more energy.
The Skypephone from Three uses a USB connector for recharging and Phone-to-PC communication allowing it to recharge itself when plugged into the computer. It is also possible to make a Phone-to-PC communication over Bluetooth. The model comes with a weight of 86 g and measurement of 100 x 44 x 13.6 mm that makes it comfortable to hold in hand. The model comes with a battery with a standby time of 320 hours and talktime of 270 minutes. The handset comes with a screen size of 2 inches, at a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and carries a 2 megapixel digital cameras that assures the user of perfect photography.
