I am not a number-I am a man

By: (j) Marshall Wade

In the tv series “The Prisoner," with Patrick McGoohan as the star(and my favorite actor), the above was a statement he was always making...if I remember correctly, he was designated number 6!

However;  when it comes to each one of us as individuals, we should, and actually must, consider ourselves as number one.  That may seem a little selfish to some folks, but in the reality of this universe, it is the only way to survive.

We live in a jungle, and if you don't believe me, take a good hard look at our big cities, and some of those people walking around.  Give some of those creepy ___________(you fill in the blank space)  half a chance, and they will take your money, your land, and anything else you may own...and in some cases, even your life.

Another analogy would be this:  if you don't have any food, you are not going to be able to feed yourself, let alone your family.  If you don't have any money, there is very little you can do at all.  If you disagree with me, consider the following!  Once you begin helping others to the point that it hurts you, you become part of the problem instead of part of the solution to the problem.

Not sure of anyone else, but I do not wish to be part of any type of problem to anyone or anything...like everyone else, I have enough problems of my own.  Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to make a suggestion...you must be in control of your life, and the only way to accomplish that is to set some goals.

Gallant, genuine, and graphic goals are very prodigious and profound ambitions to embrace; a basic attribute is they give us a sincere reason for living.

Also, another beautiful and dazzling aspect is we get to imagine and create them all by ourselves.

We are all highly capable of imagining, exploring, formulating, visualizing, and becoming the type of person we wish to be, anything we want to do, and go anywhere we wish to go – if we are willing to pay the price! If it’s a worthy goal that will improve us, don’t even think about what others think – just do it! Granted, we all still have other responsibilities, but that shouldn’t stop us from our goals...write them down, hammer out a plan, and go for it!

Consider this: if we don’t generate a goal, we have no inclination of where we are going to end up ... or down! Naturally, everyone enjoys being down once in awhile, but only for every worthy rationalizations. Otherwise, I suppose we would desire all those creepy crawlies inside of us to transform into “joy germs", and spread all sorts of good cheer throughout our biological systems.

All those minute, merry microbes are going to circulate happiness a lot quicker when they have something wonderful to look forward to. Therefore, when we select a reputable goal, they get all excited and rambunctious, spread the great news and happiness all over, and work a lot more efficiently – which, in turn, improves our health, and creates natural optimism. And before we can say antidisestablishmentarianism, we have created a perpetual cycle of happiness. Isn’t that what we wanted in the first place? Imagine that! And to think, we accomplished all that by just deciding on a goal – imagine what we could create by remembering that we are not a number and setting a goal and going for it!
