Weeping Mother

By: Satish Verma

Huge crowd surged forward
stones were breaking stones.
lynched, cracked open the skull
of unarmed, lone man,
crushing the sane voice, effacing a wise thought!
Commandor was extracting blood,
killing past and future.
Time was blood
blood was time.
This was extortion, brutal art of living.
A frightened mind grinds to a halt
tears down the curtains.
Eyes unreadable.

Rashes are furtively
burning the skin red.
Young generation was sliting the throats
Red ants are crawling on your back
Tomorrow, before sunrise,
no body will wake you up.
Deep in the sands, your
weeping mother will take you,
lull you to sleep in bones.
