Uluwatu Café is located along the Kedonganan Beach and it uses that advantage by providing beach side dining to its patrons. Its location pretty much tells you what kind of food they'll be serving and it's a café, not a high class restaurant so no black ties necessary and prices are reasonable.
- The Vibe
The sandy shores are lined with dining areas for customers who want to experience the breaking of the waves, the stars and the cool breeze along with their food. To make things more romantic, musicians strolling along the beach are ready to entertain with their renditions of the good old classics as well as mandarin songs.
- The Food
The specialty of course is seafood and it's fresh from the tank. If you're not an animal activist, watch your seafood go from living to being served on a platter, or in this case a plate, in just mere minutes. There are many varieties of seafood and different styles of preparation to choose from. The friendly staff will be able to give you any recommendations if necessary. Otherwise, the menu is pretty clear cut.
The steamed garrupa would be a common and safe choice. Arriving slightly overcooked made the meat a bit tough but with fish it never gets too tough to chew. Well done to the chef though for being keep it tasty. The chilli clams are pretty self explanatory but it isn't for weak palates. The chilli is spicy and might make even the tolerant go up in flames. No seafood experience is complete without crabs and the black pepper crab would be a good option. Crab on its own is pretty bland but the black pepper sauce is a good companion to this fellow crustacean. Complete the meal with a choice of white rice or fried rice. The fried rice isn't particularly noteworthy but then again, fried rice is pretty standard all over the world.
SD's take on Uluwatu Cafe Prices at the Uluwatu Café are reasonable and the atmosphere that comes with it makes the experience worth the visit. It's not everyday that one gets a chance to dine with the stars above and the sights and sounds of the waves ahead. The people of Bali are generally very friendly and helpful people and the service at Uluwatu Café is similar. This café isn't exactly the place to come dressed to the nines so be prepared and go casual. Slippers are advisable as it is beachside dining which means that would include the soft sands.
